Early image of St. Paul

This appeared recently on the Archdiocese of St. Louis website:

Saint Paul, from a 9th century manuscript of his letters, attributed to the Abbey of Saint Gall, located in present day Switzerland.

The Latin inscription reads “Saint Paul sits here and writes.”

It is one of the earliest known depictions of Saint Paul in Western art.
