It’s countdown to Nutcracker at our house. Only 16 days till opening night! The Joffrey Ballet’s Nutcracker at the St. Louis Fox Theatre casts about 118 local children in it’s production each year and divides them into two casts. Audrey was cast as a boy in the party scene and has been attending rehearsals since late September.

Dance St. Louis, who brings in the Joffrey and coordinates the children’s cast, posted the following fun fact on Facebook:

Transporting The Joffrey Ballet’s production of NUTCRACKER AT THE FOX requires five 48-foot long semi-trailer trucks. One and one half semi-trailers are filled with props alone. There are well over 320 individual props, including: a 6′ x 6′ Spanish fan; a 5′ x 7′ x 4’6” tea pot; an 8′ tall grandfather clock; a 9′ x 6′ chandelier; and a 14′ tall “Mother Ginger” puppet.

This is our second time with a child in the cast. In 2008, Max was cast as a polichinelle/mouse. The polichinelles are Mother Ginger’s children. It’s a huge production and a great experience. We are glad to be included once again.
