On Saturday, we attended vigil Mass at the Church of the Transfiguration, the oldest Catholic church building in New York City. First Lutheran (1801), then Episcopal (1810), in 1853 the church was purchased by the Roman Catholic Diocese of New York. The Church of the Transfiguration is referred to as the “Church of Immigrants” having served waves of settlers to New York City, including German, Irish, Italian, and now Chinese.

Evann, funny how I used to go to NYC very often and never even knew this Church existed. Too bad. Next time I am there I will be sure to visit. Thank you.

Esther, it was a very nice little church, really tucked away. I am glad to be home now, and had all intentions of posting while gone. Ha, so much for that!
