The new school year is just around the corner. My planbooks are on order and I’m sorting out the details for my 6th, 9th, and 12th grade students.

Planning for my 6th grader is fairly easy. I am still undecided on a science for her, but I’ll sort that out this week. Here’s the basic plan so far:

  • Math: Saxon Math 76
  • Religion: Faith & Life 6 — Following Christ
  • Engish: Voyages in English 6
  • Reading: starting the year with A Book of Joy — Faith & Freedom. Also thinking about starting a small Book Club for 4th-6th graders. That might be fun.
  • Writing: this is Dad’s class!
  • Spelling: Spelling Power as needed
  • Handwriting: practice, practice, practice
  • History: From See to Shining Sea — The Story of America with CD workbook
  • Science: ??
  • Art: decided as we go
  • PE: 5.25 hours per week tap, jazz, ballet & pointe

We haven’t made plans yet for the 6th grade and under crowd at our weekly homeschool co-op, so there may actually be some minor additions and/or supplemental classes to factor in. So far, so good. Now on to the hard ones!

Also for the 2011-2012 homeschool year: 9th grade & 12th grade.
