Treasured moments

Erin at Seven Little Australians Plus One has a weekly blog post called Treasured Moments. I have been trying to jump in for the past several weeks. Finally, here I am.

One of my goals this homeschool year is to go on more field trips, both educational and fun, that are geared to the specific interests or needs of my kids.

This was a good week with some fun activities:

On Monday we decided to take the day off. If the Post Office can do it, so can we. Everyone headed out to Riverwood Park and Trail for a brisk fall day of hiking along the Missouri River. Audrey found a couple of garden snails, which now reside in a large terrarium in our schoolroom.

Friday we headed to Pumpkin Land for a St. Louis Catholic Homeschool Association field trip. I love pumpkins, and my kids love field trips. There were over 25 of us. While I was taking pics and freezing, the kids were climbing hay pyramids, exploring the tower of terror, navigating the corn maze, and more. The hayride was a bit chilly but we all had a great time.

Saturday was the Greater St. Louis Archaeological Society‘s artifact show. We’re doing a 10th grade Archaeology course for Max and this excursion was for her. The artifact show has some very interesting items and super friendly people who are willing to answer questions and share their expertise. I got a poster detailing early man in the U.S., Max bought a point, and we got incredible deals on some used books. While some of us were at the artifact show, Isabel was auditioning for this year’s St. Charles Christmas Traditions festival. This is one of the largest outdoor Christmas festivals in the U.S. Last year Isabel played the character of Clara from the Nutcracker. It was a good audition so we will see what happens this year!
