Throughout the month of April, which is National Poetry Month, I will share with you some original poetry written by members of my family.

This sonnet was written by my daughter, Ida.

A Prayer
Oh Lord, if You will hear one prayer of mine,
Hear this for I’m afraid that I may break.
And since You’ve transformed water into wine,
I know that You in just a day could make
All my monotony come to an end,
The bars of iron bend, the barbed wire break.
I know, by Grace, You even could transcend
My dreams. But I don’t ask for this. I’ll take
The trials too. Just help me as I do,
Assist me as I try to find a way.
You know that my desires are pure and true
So please look down with loving eyes today
And show me how to make my dream come true
In any way, my Lord, that pleases You.
