Raise the Welsh flag, it’s St. David’s Day!

St. David, or Dewi Sant, is the patron saint of Wales. He was a sixth century Celtic monk, abbot, and bishop.

For the Welsh, St. David’s Day means great festivities. The red dragon, Y’Draig Goch, is flown on the Welsh flag or worn as pins and pendants. It is also traditional to wear a daffodil, the national flower of Wales. Leeks also are worn and eaten. For the Welsh, this is a day to celebrate their heritage. As my Welsh grandmother would always say, “Cymru am Byth” — “Wales Forever!”
