Nov. 18 – Feast of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne

St. Philippine Duchesne came the New World in 1818, opening the first free school west of the Mississippi for daughters of pioneers. At the age of 71, she founded a school for Indians. The indians called her “the woman always praying.” Until her death in 1852, she founded schools in St. Charles, Florissant, New Orleans and St. Louis. She was beatified in 1940 and cannonized July 3, 1988. The Novena below is taken from the back of a holy card distributed at the Shrine.

Novena of Confidence

Lord Jesus, through the intercession of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne, to your Sacred Heart I confide (this intention).

Only look. Then do what your Heart inspires. Let your Heart decide. I count on It. I trust in It. I throw myself on Its mercy.

Lord Jesus,
You will not fail me!
