Welcome to St. Martha Monday!<\/p>\n

Keeping costs down in our home is a real priority. Those of you who have an inground swimming pool know that it can quickly turn into a money pitt, especially if you head to the pool store for your chemicals and supplies. Here are a few chemical options that are much less expensive and will keep your pool sparkling all season.<\/p>\n

Bleach, baking soda, and borax are the three main chemicals I use to maintain a beautiful, clean pool.<\/p>\n

Bleach<\/strong> — One gallon of bleach is equal to 2 to 3 pounds of shock, and less than half the price. I open, and shock with bleach and conserve my chlorine pucks to maintain the levels all summer. The dollar store is my source for bleach.<\/p>\n

Baking Soda<\/strong> — Use baking soda to increase your alkalinity. Way cheaper then the alkilinity increaser you will buy at the pool store. I buy the large bag at Sam’s.<\/p>\n

Borax<\/strong> — Use borax to bring your PH level up. Again, so much cheaper than conventional chemicals designed to raise your PH. Borax is available at most grocery stores – be sure to get just borax – no detergent added.<\/p>\n
