It’s Movie Time! Here's what we're watching, but just because it's here, doesn't always mean it was good!

Pray for the canonization of JPII
God our Father, you reward all who believe in you. May your servant, John Paul our Pope, vicar of Peter and Shepherd of your Church, who faithfully administered the mysteries of your forgiveness and love on earth, rejoice with you for ever in heaven. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen!

Yesterday, Ida’s best friend of ten years got married. Little girls all grown up. Three of my girls were in the wedding: Audrey and Max on the far left; and Ida, maid of honor, next to the bride. It was a beautiful ceremony, a wonderful reception, and a gorgeous day. What God has joined together let no man put asunder.

These felt banners are simple and fun to create. For the craft impaired, there are even kits. But don’t sell your, or your child’s, creativity short. With a little bit of sketching and planning, cutting and gluing, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind First Communion masterpiece in no time!

January 21st, 2009 Having just gone through our last First Communion, I guess the family traditions that we have established are seeming a bit more important. I already shared our First Communion banners which is something I recommend to all.
The other very important tradition in our family, associated with First Communion, is a framed photo of the First Communicant with their priest. Only one child didn’t have a pic with the priest as it didn’t turn out well. Here they are, all in unique silver frames:

January 19th, 2009 Finally, the big day. Here is Audrey with Fr. Benedict, her Godmother, and me and Isabel. What a great evening: First Penance, a lovely Mass with First Communion, and then a gathering of family and friends at our house.

January 18th, 2009 When my oldest daughter made her First Communion we wanted to do something special for the priest, who was a close family friend. We decided to make a banner. Since then, each First Communicant has made a small felt banner in honor of their special day, to present to the priest giving the First Communion. It has been a nice tradition and each child looks forward to designing and creating their banner. Since we know we are giving it away, we always take a picture of our First Communicant with their artistic creation.
Here they are, all six of them!

Audrey, our last First Communicant, received her First Holy Communion on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Congratulations, Aud!

Rev. Benedict Allin, O.S.B., St. Anselm

Prayer at a Child’s First Communion
Lord Jesus Christ, in the Sacrament of
the Eucharist You left us the outstanding
manifestation of your limitless love for us.
Thank You for giving our child the
opportunity to experience this love
in receiving the Sacrament for the first time.
May your Eucharist presence keep her
ever free from sin, fortified in faith,
pervaded by love for God and neighbor,
and fruitful in virtue, that she may
continue to receive You throughout life and
attain final union with You at death.
Amen.
January 14th, 2009 It was a lovely evening with Bishop Robert J. Hermann presiding. As you can see, our church is very unique. My best friend was Max’s sponsor, so it was a special night for all of us.

January 13th, 2009 Confirmation

Most Reverend Robert J. Hermann, St. Anselm Parish

Confirmation Prayer
O Holy spirit of God;
Take me as Your disciple.
Guide me, illuminate me,
Sanctify me.
Bind my hands,
That they may do no evil.
Cover my eyes,
That they may see it no more.
Sanctify my heart,
That evil may not dwell within me.
You are my God.
You are my guide.
Whatsoever You forbid me,
I will renounce.
And whatsoever You commend me,
In Your strength I will do.
Lead me then
Unto the fullness of Your truth.
Amen.
